Native Bird Care is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. 100% of all donations go toward food, housing, and medical treatment. We are also 100% volunteer. We depend entirely on public donations and receive no federal or state government money. Without public support, we would not be able to complete our mission of saving birds.
The birds we rescue are expensive. They might be small, but most eat live insects, there just is no other healthy way to feed them. Some in fact simply do not eat unless provided the foods they know are edible - which means we order thousands of insects a year.
The average cost for caring for and feeding the birds in our care varies significantly. For example, a recent pair of Lesser Goldfinch nestlings cost about $30. In contrast, the Long Billed Curlews you see on above, being released at Summer Lake, cost over $2000 just for their huge number of live insects they needed to gorge on to grow to 18 inches tall with 2 foot wingspans.
If you would like to sponsor a particular bird you rescued or read about, simply send us a note with your donation and we will earmark it for that bird.
Please consider our extraordinary birds when exploring organizations to donate to, their lives depend on it.
